Sound terminology
diegetic sound - dialog
non diegetic - sound affects added for mood setting
Title music - mainly theme tune, it shows the genre of the show
Synchronous sound - matches with what is happening. example girls walking matches with music
The score/Incidental music - orchestral music used to connote tone/atmosphere
Sound motif - sound thats used to show certain character is about to appear. e.g. jaws.
Sound effects - can be diegetic or non diegetic depending on wether they have been added to create realism or connote atmosphere
Dialogue - characters speaking (this progresses the narrative and reveals the characters personality/views to the audience)
Voice over - Used to give the audience an insight into the thoughts of the character (creating a bond between character and audience) set the scene or progress the narrative.
Editing Terminology
Continuity - keeping the camera in the same 180 degree angle.
Cross cutting - is a technique of continuously alternating two or more scenes that often happen simultaneously but in different locations.
Eye line match - someone is talking to someone and having eye contact with them and the camera isn't showing who they're talking to then the camera points to who they're talking to.
Matched cuts - varied camera positions and angles of the same scene.
Shot/Reverse shot - Switches between the point of views of speakers in the scene.
Fades - Deliberate fades to black connotes parts of scene/action ending.
CGI - computer generate images.
Graphic match - any juxtaposition of similar images.
Movement match - Action begun in one shot is continued/completed in the next
Jump cuts - Break caused by removing a section of shot and then splicing what remains
Long take - a continues shot
slow motion - everything is slowed down
fast motion - action speeded up
